My recent foray into clay

My last, and very brief, foray into ceramics was in my first year at art school. I recently returned to the medium, partly to get new perspectives on the thematic concerns of my work, but predominantly to force myself out of a creative comfort zone. For me the tactile qualities of clay force a more visceral interaction with medium than the two dimensional image making of my general output.

I’m quite happy with the way this piece, tentatively titled ‘wound plate’, turned out – a direction I’m motivated to explore further as I venture into contemporary ceramic art.
